a birthday in durango
in may, i celebrated my 30th birthday in style... a style i certainly wasn't used to coming from new york - celebrations were usually filled with dinners and fancy cocktails. this year, we replaced the cocktails with craft brews and the dancing for hiking in a national park.
we stayed at a great airbnb find just outside of durango's town center. waking to a blue sky, the san juan mountains shimmered in the distance and majestic horses on the property reminded me of my riding days as a kid. mesa verde national park was next on the agenda, where i overcame a fear of tight spaces in visiting the awe-inspiring cave dwellings. we scored some delicious sour ales (and a view, to boot!) at steamworks brewery back in town before heading out on the winding roads towards picturesque mountain towns, ouray and silverton.
